This week (Week 4), we discussed the importance of branding and how the initial appearance (whether it be a logo or theme) plays a key role in creating a signature trademark. Designer, Mauve Pagé came in to talk about best practices in design and we tied together the fundamental concepts of a brand, its identity and its logo. This got me reflecting and brainstorming on what sort of visual representation could illustrate myself as an artist.
After playing around with online design and photo editing softwares, this is what I came up with:
Initially, I was very set on implementing the theme of music notes, however, my main goal was to keep it simple and straightforward. The letters “MV” work to represent myself because they are my initials! I wanted to add a pop of colour and decided to stay within my colour palette of warm colours. The headphones surrounding the letters not only help to illustrate the musical aspect to my brand, but could also be seen as a representation of how music has continued to surround different aspects my life.
This week I decided to post a fairly personal video onto my Youtube Channel. No fancy mic equipment or studio, just a guitar and my favourite pair of sweats. The song ‘Nothing Else’ by Cody Carnes, serves is a reminder to myself to slowdown and trust that even in the chaos, God has His plan for me. My faith is a big part of who I am and I just wanted to showcase the powerful simplicity within this song.
