PUB101 – Process Post (Week 9)

For this week’s lecture, we dove into the topic of monetization. Our guest lecturer, Trevor Battye, talked a bit about building an audience and introduced some tips/tricks when it comes to monetizing content.

Since I am still in the early stages of developing my website, I have not made any actions to monetize through WordPress. However, a few ways I have been gaining revenue through my brand is with sponsorships, partnering with music distribution companies (i.e. CDBaby, Spotify & iTunes), as well as collaborating with YouTube’s Partner Program & Google AdSense. As a musician, the music and videos I create are the products I am “selling” to my audience. It’s quite odd to say out loud, but I am grateful for the ways it has turned into somewhat of a part-time job for me. I never would have imagined that my hobby would get me to the point where I am able to support myself and pay off my university tuition in the process. One thing I have noticed is that it takes quite a while to get the ball rolling, but once it does it happens pretty quick!
